Alignment is kind of a buzzword right now. (But that’s not a bad thing. Keep reading to find out why.)

You’ve probably seen a ton of “experts” use it. You’ve maybe even heard them say you need it. And honestly, you do need it, especially as an author.

But what does it mean to be “aligned” — especially on social media, where you probably spend a lot of your time as an author? And why does it even matter when all you want to do is write and sell books?

Being aligned simply means you’re living your life authentically, as your truest self. Easier said than done, I know! So I’ll go over some tips on how to do it below.

Since I’ve been hard at work getting the edits done on The Fall of the Codex, I thought I’d share a fun *unedited* book excerpt! There are SO MANY SUPERPOWERS in this book, y’all, which was so fun to write. This excerpt gives you a little taste of that — plus, you get to see my OG couple, Grady and Kayla, do their thing again. Which is always good, right?

(Spoiler alert: If you haven't read The Secret of the Codex yet, there are a few light spoilers here, but nothing that will ruin the story. Just wanted you to be aware. 😉)

The Prophecy of the Codex Book Excerpt

Kayla and the rest of the Four, along with Na-um and Holun, met an hour later in the mess tent, early enough that the lunch crowd hadn’t shown up yet. Though there wouldn’t be much of a “crowd” anyway—staffing for the dig was light this late in the fall semester. Most had already gone home for Thanksgiving, which was only a few days away.

That’s right — Honestly Always You is finally out in the world! This book took me 11 days to draft but over a year to edit (that ratio is pretty standard for me 😂), so seeing it in the wild is just the best.

Since my upcoming book comes out SUPER SOON (August 24th, 2021!), let’s talk about the setting of Honestly Always You. It may surprise you!

The Location

You might not know this, but Honestly Always You is set in Orlando, Florida! When I was researching colleges for The Secret of the Codex, the University of Central Florida kept coming up (they have one of the best anthropology programs in the country). So while there is a mention of the theme parks we know and love, the book focuses on Mandy and Justin on and around the UCF campus. (With a Montana cameo. If you’ve read the Codex series, that’ll sound familiar. 😉)

As often happens with book ideas that won’t let me go, the first chapter of Honestly Always You started writing itself in my head when I woke up one morning, so I knew I had to open my computer and get it down! I’m so glad I did — I love how it turned out!

Since Honestly Always You is releasing later this month, I thought I’d give you an extended excerpt from the book: the first chapter! I think it sets up the story nicely — and the drama! (Content Warning: Expect a little mild language in this excerpt. The book has stronger language and adult content.)
